Parachute was formed in 1993 by managing editor David Browne and a core of associate independent journalists and filmmakers most of whom work and live in The South: in Latin America, Africa, the Indian Sub-continent and South East Asia.

Our journalism is pro-active, not re-active. We focus on ordinary people not politicians. And, breaking with the norms of traditional journalistic coverage of the Third World, we portray "survivors" not "victims".
